Infineon 2Q07 Update

Q2’07 group revenues for Infineon were $2.36 billion. Excluding Qimonda, the revenues were $1.36 billion for the quarter. Compared to last quarter the revenues were down 11%. However less Qimonda, there was an increase of 3%. Segment wise, Automotive, Industria and Multimarket brought in $.102 billion, Communication revenues were around $350 million and other Operating Segment revenues were $72.97 million for the quarter. Qimonda had revenue of near a billion at $999.78 million.

Communications chip contributed around 25.73% of Infineon revenues during Q2’07. There was an increase in revenues for this segment by about 10% on quarter basis. These included revenues of around $13.51 million that rose out of sales to Qimonda itself. No single customer contributed to 10% of revenues for the quarter.

Geographically Asia-Pac contributed around 47% of the revenues in Q2’07. EMEA brought in another 30.95% of which Germany shared half of the revenues. Remaining 22.05% came from the Americas.

Infineon achieved a landmark in this quarter by integrating HD sound telephony into its VoIP products. It claims the technology brings conversation on par with radio.

Infineon’s ULC2 platform, an SoC E-GOLD™voice was selected by ZTE for its new ultra-low cost handset. The solution includes baseband processor, RF transceiver, power management unit and RAM.

Continuing with product launches in communications segment, Infineon also launched Dual-channel SLIC for voice and VoIP enabled devices like ATAs, cable modems, etc. The DuSLIC-xT is expected to reduce eBOM by about 50% depending on system specifications and requirements. Infineon is a significant player in this area and has already more than 500 million lines currently in operation using its CODEC/SLIC chip solutions.

On the M&A side, Infineon announced plans to acquire TI’s DSL CPE business. Infineon already serves the entire DSL value chain from CPE to CO. Infineon also agreed to sell off its Polymer Optical Fiber (POF) business to Avago Technologies.

On the management side Rüdiger A Günther was taken on board and appointed CFO and Labor Director for Infineon succeeding Peter J Fischl.
