PMC-Sierra 3Q07 Update
PMC-Sierra’s revenues for the quarter were $117.5 up by over 12% compared to Q2. Of the total revenue Optical chips contributed the main chunk with estimated revenues of $85 million which it generated by shipping over 3.62 million such chips in the quarter. Optical chip constituted around 72% of the revenues.
Revenues for the period saw improvement due to activities in wireline business. FTTH and MIPS related micro processor business showed a slight decline this quarter. The other business, enterprise storage, also improved during the quarter.
By region, Asia contributed 67% of the business followed by North America with 20% of the business. Europe brought in 10% of the business.Orders booked and shipped during the same quarter comprised 33% of the revenues up 5% from previous quarter. This quarter, PMC-Sierra saw good design win activity and won around 15 different designs in China with EPON ONU solutions besides the other wins.
Two new products were announced during the period. There was announcement of Integrated Multi-Service Processors (MSPs) for networked appliances, storage systems and security solutions which are MSP8110 and MSP8120 SoC solutions. Besides the company also introduced its first WiMAX RFIC, PM8800 WiZIRD for femtocell base stations, CPE and Mobile Station designs.
The period also saw PMC-Sierra announcing partnership with Sequans for its PM8800 WiZIRD RFIC to be made available with Sequans’ ASIC SQN2130 as an all-in-one solution for Mobile WiMAX femtocell.
With the announcement of 3Q’07 results, PMC-Sierra’s Bob Bailey who had been the President & CEO for a decade now, announced his retirement plans. However he shall remain associated with the company as the Chairman of the board.
