STMicroelectronics 3Q07 Update

Quarterly revenues for STMicroelectronics were estimated at $979.1 million for communications segment which was a little over 38% of the total revenues of $2.6 billion for the period. Compared to last quarter it was reasonably up. The major contributor continued to be the Broadband segment which includes chips for IPTV, DSL etc. Revenues from this segment were around 44.7% of the communication revenues.

The generic chips contributed another 26.7% of the revenues for the segment while Cellular chips fetched around 11.3% of the revenues. 802.11x and Bluetooth technology chips contributed in volume revenues of nearly 9.4% while VoIP specific chips contributed the remaining 7.9%.

By Geography, Asia-Pac is the major consumer of STMicro chips and earned around 60% of the revenues while US brought in another 30% for the same period. EMEA share was the 10% for the quarter.

During the quarter STMicro announced that Korea Telecom’s IPTV services using HDTV set top boxes would be using its STi710x family of integrated HDTV decoder chips. It also announced new processor STn8811 in Nomadik family build on STn8810 distributed multimedia processor. Other than this the company announced two new families of PoE Interface controllers STHS4257 and STHS237x. It also exhibited products for Mobile, Digital TV, ZigBee at CEATEC Japan 2007.

STMicroelectronics announced tie-up with Nokia for working together for licensing and supply of IC design and modem technology for 3G. It also collaborated with IBM over NGN chip process technology. The companies would work on 32nm and 22nm CMOS process-technology development, design enablement and advanced research adapted to the manufacturing of 300 mm silicon wafer.

On the management side, it announced joining of Philippe Lambinet as Corporate VP and GM of Company’s Home Entertainment and Displays group.
