Nokia Smartphone 360 Panel survey results, Part 2

I shared with you some of the results on December 4th. In addition to the results mentioned in that post, here are some interesting findings revealed by Nokia:

Where are outbound calls being made: On the move 47%; At home 29%; From office 24%.

Where is packet data being consumed: On the move 35%; At home 44%; From office 21%.

Data traffic use by survey panellists: Increased from 6mb/month in 2006 to 14 mb/month in 2007. If we look at the distribution of data traffic by bearer, WiFi/WLAN accounted for 31%, WCDMA 54%, EDGE 7%, GPRS 7%. Not all panellists had WiFi. WiFi sessions were longer with an average session duration of 4.5 minutes.

Applications used: Widely used applications include the usual communication related applications such as Logs, Contacts, Phone Book, SMS, Calendar, Camera, Gallery, Clock. ‘Rising applications’ include Browser, Email, Gaming, Music, WLAN Access. ‘New applications’ that are being used include VoIP, Blogs, Podcasting, and Mobile TV. Rising apps being used by 20-80% of the panellists on a weekly basis. New apps being used by 5-10% panellists on a weekly basis.

VoIP and IM: Fring seems the most popular VoIP client. Skype is also in use. VoIP users represent a small user base but they tend to be heavy users. 31% of the panellists used IM.

Music: 38% regular users (using at least once a week). Typical panellist make use of music player 1.9 times/week. 47% of the panellists surveyed say that mobile is now their primary music player.

Gaming: 59% regular users. Snake and Card Deck most popular games.

Browsing: 81% regular users. Typical user visits 2 URLs per week. Most popular sites are the operator sites, followed by Google, Yahoo, BBC, and Nokia.

Third party application download: Approximately 40% downloaded third party applications in 2007, compared to 60% panellists in 2006.
