Interview with Andre Temnorod, CEO, Broadvox

How is Broadvox positioned in the next-generation telecom market?

Our vision is to become the leading provider of SIP Trunking services to SMBs and enterprises in North America. Currently, we have an excellent business as a carrier's carrier but we seen AndreTemnorod.jpgthe rapid adoption of IP telephony as an opportunity to evolve our business. We can provide the same cost savings and reliability of our traditional business to this rapidly growing business customer base.

What specific markets does Broadvox SIP Trunking serve?

Any business wanting to leverage their new investment in IP Telephony equipment such as an IP PBX or SIP Phones and any business using an IAD to connect their legacy gear to an IP Server.

How does Broadvox tailor their solution to the various markets it serves?

Our SIP Trunking package can be customized based upon the desired number of simultaneous calls, long distance volumes, in-bound and out-bound toll-free volumes, number of DIDs, local number portability requirements, and other capabilities. Each business defines its service package with Broadvox, not the other way around. Moreover, as we are using an indirect channel of Value Added Resellers to sell the product, this gives then greater flexibility in address the unique demands of their customers.

Are there some verticals where you've found more success?

SIP Trunking can be divided into three basic groups of users: a small centralized business, a business with multiple locations and offices and call centers. For the small business we are able to optimize existing bandwidth to support both voice and data requirements. For businesses with multiple locations, we can develop consistent company dialing plans, reduce the amount of equipment and PRIs while supporting the need to grow individual locations more easily.

It must be very competitive out there. There are very few success stories in SIP Trunking?

The current success of IP trunking might be impacted by some service providers with underdeveloped business plans or poor execution. Over the last year or so we have seen service providers go out of business as a result of over reaching or not gaining an understanding of their target customer base. Many of the new service providers are under funded and led by inexperienced management. That creates a level of uncertainty which impacts the adoption rate of new service offerings such as SIP Trunking.

What is your view of the future of IP telephony industry?

Today business decides to switch to IP Telephony based primarily around cost issues. A business looks at its monthly expense or the ROI on a new IP PBX and determines it is cost effective to change carriers or upgrade or replace their PBX. However, the greatest benefit will come as the innovators begin to develop new applications leveraging SIP. It will be new applications and improvements in productivity that will form the long term foundation for the growth of IP Telephony. Innovative applications will result from the many developers that decide to leverage the open SIP standard to build a broader range of applications, moving from standalone systems to integrating applications based upon unified communications and solving key business needs. In doing this, they will sell a new generation of products. At Broadvox we believe we will have an impact by participating in various forums working to establish the baseline for user expectations. Those expectations will influence the application direction of the successful SIP application developers.
