In the US majority of wireline TDM lines are now NGN as is the case in Western Europe. Italy has the highest percentage component of NGN voice element, followed by France and the UK. Out of BRIC countries, China seems to have the most advanced wireline network. The three main Chinese carriers upgraded their networks to NGN six years ago.
In China most of the access switches also are NGN. That includes wireless carriers as well. In India BSNL is in the midst of its migration. MTNL has implemented a small pilot project. Other wireline carriers like Reliance and Airtel are rolling out pure NGN networks. As in other countries more NGN equipment lands in India’s wireless networks than in wireline. In India, the size of wireless network is almost ten times the size of its wireline network.
In Brazil, Oi has not touched its Class 5 network yet. However some migration of Class 4 network has taken place. The chart below compares the extent to which wireline networks in BRIC countries have migrated to NGN.
